ECO-FRIENDLY
Green
is more than our trademark color. It is our philosophy
of caring for the inn, our guests, family and
community. It is our commitment to our planet.
Probably the
first thing you notice in entering the drive is the
juxtaposition of solar panels on an 1858 barn.
Inevitably you will notice the solar arrays in the
field. This system is currently supplying approximately
two-thirds of our electricity. The Prius in the
driveway is further evidence of our commitment to a
cleaner, healthier environment.
We support
the Slow-Foods movement by purchasing directly from
local orchards and ranches. We shop within a limited
distance from the inn, buying from suppliers who also
purchase responsibly. Meals at the inn reflect the Slow
Foods philosophy as diners relax, converse and watch the
cook prepare each course of the meal. Our inn-grown
herbs, vegetables and fruit are supplemented with fresh
local produce and products. Organically-grown items are
used whenever possible.
The
inn gardens
are constantly changing to foster California native
plants and trees and water conservation. We also compost
and use vermiculture to give back to the rich soil in
our landscape.
Our most
recent score on the Green Hotels Rating System is 22 out
of a possible 24. (We do not have gray-water recycling
nor do we place recycle baskets in guest bedrooms.)
Green Hotels
criteria include both products and practices. Energy
Star appliances, compact fluorescent lighting,
alternative energy, biodegradable and natural bath
amenities and cleaning products, all cotton bed and bath
linens, durable service items, sensitivity to people
with allergies and chemical sensitivities are
eco-friendly tenets we have incorporated into all
aspects of running the inn. |
